Fuel For The Fire – 40th Anniversary Edition is an instrumental progressive rock / jazz-fusion album by composer and pianist Alan Goldberg.
Originally begun as an independent recording project in 1984, the album returns more than forty years later with new performances, expanded arrangements, and the perspective of a different season of life.
The release brings together piano, synthesizers, guitar, drums, orchestral color, and original 1984 recordings, creating a renewed musical signal shaped by memory, continuity, transformation, and realization through time.
About the Album
Fuel For The Fire began in 1984 as an independent instrumental vinyl release, recorded with piano, synthesizers, reel-to-reel tape machines, instinct, and whatever tools were available at the time. The music carried the urgency, imagination, and searching energy of a younger artist trying to capture what he heard in his head.
For many years, the recordings remained part of the past — present, but unfinished in their deeper meaning. Returning to the album more than forty years later became an act of realization: a way of hearing the original spark again through the awareness, gratitude, and musical perspective of a different season of life.
The 40th Anniversary Edition blends original recordings with newly performed and re-recorded parts, allowing younger and older versions of the artist to coexist inside the same musical space. Old tracks remain woven into the album like signals moving through time, while new performances, live drums, guitar, orchestration, and modern textures bring the music into its present form.
Across the album, Fuel For The Fire follows a path through awakening, longing, decision, growth, service, gratitude, release, and surrender. The result is a collaboration across time — music begun in one life chapter and realized in another.

Artist Bio
Alan Goldberg is an Austin-based composer and pianist creating instrumental music shaped by progressive rock, jazz fusion, contemporary classical textures, and the journey of becoming. Anchored by piano and expanded through ensemble writing, his music moves from intimate reflection to cinematic, emotionally expansive passages.
Goldberg’s roots reach back to classic progressive rock, jazz, blues, and the thrill of hearing an album unfold without knowing where it might lead. Influences such as The Who, Yes, Jethro Tull, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Chick Corea, Frank Zappa, and later progressive artists helped shape his desire to create music that feels exploratory, melodic, and alive.
Across his catalog, Goldberg uses melody, harmony, improvisation, and layered instrumentation to explore curiosity, transformation, resilience, and the creative process. His work often begins at the piano, then expands into a larger musical landscape through ensemble colors, guitar, horns, strings, rhythm, and motion.
